Left palm itching meaning
An itchy left palm is most often read as money leaving: a bill, a purchase or a payment on its way out. It isn't a bad sign. Many people see it as a reminder to spend with intention, or as money moving so that more can flow in.
For women, some traditions, especially in India, read it the other way around: an itchy left palm means money is coming.
Right palm itching meaning
An itchy right palm is the lucky one in most traditions: money is coming to you. People read it as a sign of a raise, a gift, a win, a repaid debt or an unexpected payment.
In some traditions that read the hands by gender, the right palm is the lucky one for men.
Palm itching superstitions
- Don't scratch it. Many say scratching scratches the luck away.
- Rub it on wood, “touching wood” to make the luck stick.
- Put it in your pocket, as if keeping the money there.
- Both palms itching is often read as money moving in both directions: some going out, more coming in.
“An itching palm” in Shakespeare
The link between itchy palms and money is centuries old. In Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Brutus accuses Cassius of having “an itching palm”: a hunger for gold (Julius Caesar, Act 4, Scene 3). Then as now, an itchy palm meant money on the mind.
What to do when your palm itches
- Pause and notice which hand, and what you were thinking about.
- Set an intention for the money: what you'd welcome and what it would make possible.
- Say a money affirmation, or play the 888 Hz session above. See the money affirmations.
- Write it down. Note when it happens and what follows. The 30-Night Journal has space for exactly this.
When an itchy palm is your body talking
An itchy palm is often simply dry skin, eczema or a reaction to soap, cleaner or something you touched.
If you're pregnant and your palms and the soles of your feet itch, especially in the second half of pregnancy, tell your doctor or midwife promptly: it can be a sign of a liver condition called cholestasis of pregnancy (MedlinePlus).
