What is clairaudience?
Clairaudience means “clear hearing”. In spiritual traditions, it's guidance that arrives as sound: words, a voice, music or tones, heard in the mind rather than the ears. It's one of the four clairs, alongside clairvoyance, clairsentience, claircognizance.
Signs of clairaudience
- Words, names or phrases pop into your head and turn out to matter.
- A song plays in your mind, or on the radio, and answers exactly what you were thinking.
- You hear your name called when no one is there.
- You're sensitive to noise and love silence.
- You hear ringing or tones, especially when you're relaxing. See ear ringing spiritual meaning.
- You talk to yourself, and your best ideas come out loud.
Clairaudience vs clairvoyance
Clairaudience hears it; clairvoyance sees it. One person gets the word “wait”; another sees a red light in their mind's eye. Same message, different gift.
How to develop clairaudience
- Make space for silence. A few quiet minutes daily, phone away.
- Ask a question, then listen. Notice the first word or sound that comes.
- Listen to music with intention. Notice which lyric stands out today.
- Meditate with sound. A steady tone like the session above, or a sound bath, trains inner listening.
- Write down what you hear. The 30-Night Journal has space for exactly this.
Clairaudience and hearing voices: when to see a doctor
Clairaudient guidance is usually gentle, brief and helpful, and it never asks you to harm anyone. If you hear voices that are frightening, constant, critical or commanding, or that come with not sleeping or feeling unlike yourself, please talk to a doctor. Hearing voices is more common than people think, and support helps.
