What is clairsentience?
Clairsentience means “clear feeling”. It's the clair of the body: intuition that arrives as a physical sensation or an emotion, rather than a picture, a voice or a thought. It's one of the four clairs, alongside clairvoyance, clairaudience, claircognizance.
Signs of clairsentience
- You feel the mood of a room as soon as you walk in.
- You get strong gut feelings about people or places, and they're usually right.
- You feel other people's emotions, or even physical aches, around them.
- Crowds, conflict or certain places leave you drained.
- You get chills, goosebumps or a tingle when something true is said.
- Objects, old buildings or photos give you a feeling about their story.
Clairsentience examples
- Walking into a house and instantly feeling uneasy, then learning there was an argument there.
- Feeling heavy and sad around a friend who later tells you they're struggling.
- A warm rush or goosebumps when you're on the right path, or a knot in your stomach when you're not.
Clairsentience vs empath
They're close cousins. An empath takes on other people's emotions as if they were their own. Clairsentience is broader: you may feel emotions, but also energy, places, objects, and guidance about decisions. Many empaths are clairsentient; clairsentience is the gift, and being an empath is one way it shows up.
Clairsentience vs claircognizance
Clairsentience feels it, in the body; claircognizance knows it, as a thought or certainty. Many people have both: a gut feeling followed by sudden knowing.
How to develop clairsentience
- Scan your body. Before a decision, close your eyes and notice: open or tight, warm or cold, light or heavy?
- Ask “is this mine?” When a feeling arrives out of nowhere, ask whether it's yours or someone else's.
- Practice with objects. Hold a meaningful object and notice what you feel before you think.
- Ground and clear daily. Feet on the earth, a shower with intention, or a short sage cleansing.
- Write down your feelings and what followed. The 30-Night Journal has space for exactly this.
Protecting your energy
Clairsentient people pick up a lot. Rest, time alone, nature, and protective stones like black tourmaline help you feel deeply without carrying everything. If heavy feelings stay with you for weeks, talking with a counselor helps; sensitivity and support go well together.
